SOA & SFA Disaster Response and Help

The SOA hopes our members and their families impacted by Helena are safe and sound. With limited communications in the affected areas, it's difficult to know how everyone is. Our instinct is to launch a BrightLight mission as we see the photos of the devastation but we can only pray that local, state, and national leaders do the job. 
Please reach out to each other if you feel the anxiety and stress is too much.

The SFA wants to fly emergency supplies into those cut off in the Appalachia areas.  The Special Forces Charitable Trust (SFCT) is collaborating with the SFA to provide assistance to those needing it. As of Saturday evening, $30,000 has been dedicated from the SFCT to the SFA for families in need.

CHECK THE STATUS OF ROADS IN NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina residents trying to connect with family members may call NC 211 (or 1-888-892-1162 if calling from outside the state) to report missing loved ones. People in the impacted areas can indicate they are safe by checking in on Facebook crisis response or reporting themselves safe through Red Cross Reunification by calling 1-800- ED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Only use 911 for life-threatening emergencies so the lines remain open for critical situations.

For those in or planning to go to an area with internet and cell phone service problems, here are a few tips.

CELLPHONE DISASTER ROAMING: Damaged infrastructure hampered cell service west of I-77. Network providers have enabled "disaster roaming," Gov. Roy Cooper’s office said, meaning that people can find service on any working network regardless of their provider. Go to settings, then connections. Under mobile network settings, make sure roaming is enabled. 
 
OnStar Crisis Assist services are now available for those impacted by Hurricane Helene.  No wifi needed. If you have current OnStar services in your vehicle, and it’s an emergency, push the red Emergency button and you’ll get a priority connection to the OnStar team.
FLORIDA: Updates on Response and Recovery Efforts
BE AWARE THAT EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROVIDERS REQUEST NO ONE SELF-DEPLOY INTO THE IMPACTED AREAS. YOU MAY ONLY ADD TO THEIR WORKLOAD.
