final salute to MACV-SOG Green Beret Jon C. Potter - Chiến Đoàn 3 Xung Kích CCS-MACV-SOG

November 20, 2024 -- John Meyer: Today we rendered our final salute to MACV-SOG Green Beret Jon C. Potter, who ran top secret missions across the fence into Cambodia during the eight-year secret war fought during the Vietnam War. Jon served at CCS during his tour of duty where he was a highly respected officer.

Jon was laid to rest today next to his loving wife Anna in the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Pegram, Tennessee. She passed away several years ago following an heroic battle with cancer.

Rendering the final salute from left: Tom Laning, recently retired SF soldier from the 5th Special Forces Group, John Stryker Meyer, an SF SOG recon team leader and former 5th Special Forces Group veteran, and Lloyd Carpenter, a medically retired Green Beret. Additionally, two Green Berets representing the 5th Special Forces Group based at Ft. Campbell, Ky, joined in the final salute to Jon C. Potter as friends and family members gathered at his final resting place.

Jon C. Potter was a member of the Special Operations Association, founded by SOG veterans whose membership ranks include aviators from the South Vietnamese Air Force, 219th Special Operations Squadron, the US Air Force’s 20th Special Operations Squadron, Marine Corps HML-367 (Scarface), the 176th Muskets, the 101st Airborne Aviation Battalion and the 1st Cav, to name a few SOA members today.
